About Landlord & Tenant Board

The Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) was created by the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) on January 31, 2007. The purpose of the Landlord and Tenant Board is to inform Landlords and Tenants about their rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act and provide balanced and timely dispute resolution in accordance with the law.

The Residential Tenancies Act sets the rules for most residential rental housing in the province of Ontario. The Residential Tenancies Act gives residential Landlord and Tenants rights and responsibilities and sets out a process for enforcing them. Its aim is to provide a rental housing system that protects tenants, helps landlords, and promotes investment in Ontario’s rental housing market.
